Out of Goa's 3,702 sq. km area, twenty per cent (755 sq km) is covered by wildlife protected areas. Far from the crowds of the beaches and full-moon parties, the wildlife sanctuaries in Goa provide you a welcome break. Infact, when you are in the wildlife areas of Goa, you may find yourself falling in love with yet another interesting aspect of this tiny state.
Most of the wildlife protected areas are concentrated in the Sanguem and Sattari talukas (districts). Sanguem taluka is home to Goa's popular wildlife sanctuaries namely - Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary and Mollem National Park. Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary is another famous sanctuary and is located at the junction of Ponda, Sanguem and Sattari talukas. Cotigao Sanctuary in Canacona, Netravali in Sanguem, Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary in Tiswadi Taluka and Mhadei in Sattari are other beautiful feathers in Goa's lush cap.
If you want to spot the wildlife especially the larger animals in Goa, then you must keep patience. If lucky, you may easily spot a magnificent gaur, sloth bear and many other animals making their way into the forest. But even if you fail to catch a glimpse of animals, a trip in Goa's forested interiors is a reward in itself.
So, do take a trip deeper into the richness of this land, where Goa's other inhabitants abound - the wildlife that hides in jungles and birds that crowd the rivers.
